Power’s out, most homes are dark
you’ve put aside what you had planned
bringing back what people need
you call me late, please understand;

The heat has taken it’s toll on you
your face has burned from too much sun
you have not eaten – no time to waste
you do not rest ‘til the work gets done;

The radio blares – your name is called
another trouble takes you away
you know it’s bad – this broken pole
it keeps you from me another day;

Your feet are clad in hooks for hours
that climbing belt rubbed raw your skin
your arms are tired from pulling wire
off one pole – up another again;

6 a.m. – your pulling in
you’ve worked all night – it breaks my heart
I see the stress etched on your face
one more night we’ve spent apart;

I gather up your muddied jeans
your shirt and wallet completely wet
I feel the leather – peer inside
these bills are drenched from your own sweat;

I know it’s hard – working overtime
I see the joy, the pride you take
in this job most men can’t do
it’s meant for you – there’s no mistake;

I’m proud of you – I hope it shows
this choice you’ve made – it is your call
not any man can stand the dangers of your work
you are Lineman – that says it all.

I love you Mike –
