His phone rings and he slips into the night
As I lay awake in bed awaiting his return
I pray he won’t be long and that he is all right
I hope he remembers the safety rules he’s learned

He has a drive ahead of him in a truck too loud
It makes me smile just to hear is voice through the sound
He loves his job and always makes me proud
And I know at the end to me he is bound

He sacrifices himself and his time with me
Interrupting our dinners, movies, and weekends all the time
His goal is to bring back the electricity
Venturing into blizzards & storms, or car-poles and grime

While I wish he could be with me to hold and to kiss
I pray I can be patient while he is gone
I pray he knows it is his smile and arms that I miss
Through these long hours I pray we are strong

Sometimes we are frustrated and stressed
As if my husband were a man I won’t get to know
There are days he is only home to rest
And when it’s windy or rains I fear he’ll have to go

He braves the awful weather and the crazy hours
And he is like a human GPS
In many ways he is brave and has super powers
I thank God we are so blessed

I am always asking Allah to keep me for him
As I support him even when things are tough
I spend my days and nights waiting for him
I pray our marriage withstands all that is rough

My days are spent preparing for him at home
My nights are lonely when he is not here
I married a lineman who is made of stone
But for our sacred bond I do not fear.
