Friday, Dec.18,1998, a Distribution crew working for Asplundh Const. in S. Fla, had a near fatality. The crew was setting a pole in the primary area, when apparently the pole slipped out of control of the crew and made contact with the primary. The story as of so far is the primary WAS covered with line hose, but somehow the pole either pushed the hoses apart to there was a bare spot exposed to the pole. Regardless, the apprentice on the crew was jetting the pole with a steel metal pipe when the pole made contact, causing phase to ground contact to his body. NO, he was not wearing any protective gloves at the time of contact. Guys we got to use our heads out there. This incident could have been avoided if the Foreman or lineman on the crew told him to wear his gloves. Thankfully he is doing ok, and expected to recover. Keep it safe out there guys.
