I work for our states transportation dept. as an electrician/electronics tech. I responded to a trouble call where a paving contractor had cut an 8" water main near a traffic signal pole. The water had nearly undercut the pole before it was shut off. I was able to secure the pole with chains and a backhoe before it kicked out. But that is not what I am writing about. While I was there, an employee of the paving contractor went to refuel a de-watering pump that had ran out of gas. It was hot, and he did not use a funnel. He splashed gas all over the pump and it ignited, burning his face and eye. He was able to return to work later in the day with a "world class sunburn" and an eye-patch. I guess he was lucky. The point is, we all work around portable power equipment, and we all get in a hurry sometimes, but we need to be carefull not to let the hurry and excitement get in the way of safety. If you MUST refuel a hot engine, use a funnel and do it slowly and carefully.
