Submitted By - Test It, To Be SureUrd padmount bayonet fuses: When I was a apprentice, we were repairing a bad urd service to an apartment building, it was in the early morning and we didn't think it would hurt to shut power off to this one complex so we decided to kill secondary side of padmount so we could make our splices de-energized, so we pulled bayonet fuse and the journeyman and foreman figured it was dead and they didn't bother to test transformer with a voltmeter, I walked over and looked to see if there were any meters spinning and sure enough, they were, I told the foreman and he thought I was nuts, we then tested it and sure enough the secondary side was still hot, even after the bayonet fuse was removed, needless to say this padmount was changed out. Since then I have ran into this once more, so please test these every time, because one short cut could be your last one !!!
