One day last summer, I just cleared a call in north Akron, and the dispatcher asked if I would go help Al out on a call? He was the Kent troubleman and he could use my help on an outage. When I arrived on location, I saw his truck parked there but no Al. There was three phase that disappeared into the woods, with the C phase 100 T fuse blown. I gave Al a call. He was patrolling the line out. He said everthing was up and to refuse the door and plug it in. It held. When Big Al came tromping out of the woods we went to the other end of the three phase, to a urd housing allotment. There was a three phase overhead power bank that fed a lift station right next to a lake. The C phase fuse was blown there.A double blow. At the base of the pole, we thought we might find the reason for the blow. A squirrel, bird or raccoon. Instead, we found a large fish with its head chewed completely off. Evidently, a bird must have caught the fish and decided to have lunch on top of the transformer. When the fish made contact with the primary riser, it blew both cut-outs. We both laughed when Al said that the dispatcher will never believe this one. He called it in giving him the info and when the dispatcher asked if we found the cause Al told him yes, a fish. "RIGHT!" came from the dispatcher. So I took the fish in
that afternoon and placed it on his desk. He thought we were pulling his leg. Not so. In shooting trouble, you never know what's going to happen next.
